SIFU - The Sanctuary [Part 2]

The Sanctuary is the 5th and final level of Sifu, hideout of your last target : Yang the leader. It is themed around the earth element. Unlike the other hideouts of the game, here there is no transformation of the environment according to the themed element, but the challenge was more likely to incorporate that element in the setting of the level which is located on a mountainous terrain. The goal was to play with colors and subtle placement of stones and rocks in the architecture and surroundings. Our main reference was the Weihai Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Sanctuary is a refuge for broken souls.

This is the level I worked the most on as an Environment Artist, alongside Enguerrand Michelin, Sacha Veyrier, Clément Masset as associate lead artist and Loïc Lefranc who worked on the lighting, all under the art direction of Paul-Emile Boucher. I started making the first block out of the entire level on top of the level design made by Rémi Gallet - using the amazing concept art work from Servane Altermatt and Chen-Yang Hsu - and kept working on it until late production stages. At the exception of the Boss Room where you fight Yang for the 1rst time which was made by Paul-Emile Boucher, Enguerrand Michelin, Clément Masset and Loïc Lefranc.
